Twelve-year old Stacy Smith, world champion baton twirler, is a perfect example of what we mean by "supernormal." In earlier posts we've told stories of Houdini's famous friends, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sax Rohmer, who had acrimonious debates on how much of Harry's ability was "supernatural" and how much was "supernormal."
Stacy makes the difference crystal clear. She achieves merely normal results after 100-thousand head bumps caused by falling batons. But at 100-thousand-and-one, something magical DOES happen: she reaches critical mass, and acquires "supernormal" powers.
Supernormal begins with normal and builds on it. Supernatural is a fantasy that is logically impossible. The secret is practice.
