This is the year for women in magic, never mind the sesquicentennial of the Gettysburg Address.
First came the long-lost memoirs of Houdini’s friend Adelaide Herrmann, "Queen of Magic," brilliantly edited by Margaret Steele. Margaret is a fine magician in her own right, and has recreated Adelaide’s act.

Following the trail blazed by Adelaide, our friend Dean Carnegie recently called our attention to two of the finest magicians anywhere, whose womanhood adds a luster to their acts that no man could hope to match.
And you’ve got to love the color-changing earrings and many hands of Alana Moehlemann.
On Alana's behalf let's give an alt-Lincoln nod here to the “coat of arms” first made famous by our old friend the pioneering performance artist Pat Oleszko:

Pat has inspired many great female artists, magical and otherwise, including our deeply missed friend Gilda Radner, who first burst onto Broadway in the National Lampoon Show with the immortal line: "And...there's a girl in the show!"
