One of our all-time favorites, Teller, is a pioneer of the science-art-philosophy of magic. His onstage act with Penn is silent but when you get him in front of a group of brain researchers his words fluently pour forth. And his actions speak louder.
Teller talks. But he educates this Ph.D.-filled audience with body movement, not words.
As we’ve written before, neuroscientists and psychologists have come full circle in their theories. After a century of meandering from empiricism to behaviorism to "cognitive science," they find themselves reverting back to the interests of the ancients (who called themselves philosophers, not psychologists). In ancient times, the primary concerns of deep thinkers were attention and intention. Today's Ph.D.'s are finding that the experts in this field are not the CAT scanners, but the rabbit producers.
