Houdini's personal copy - the book that changed his life. |
In these days when the reality show trumps Realpolitik, it's useful to remember that 160 years ago the great Robert-Houdin used theatrical trickery to prevent war between France and Algeria. Pretty good for a guy who suffered from stage fright. Politics is a performance art, it seems. If you get it right, it can work - we hope!
Houdini's namesake wrote about it in detail in his memoirs, which can be perused at leisure here. To get a sense of his skill, both as a performer and a creator of illusions, we present a recreation of one of his masterworks, performed by the present day master Paul Daniels.
