Houdini artifact: his draft registration, showing "weak left hand." |
Some of our readers have asked us to chronicle our search for Houdini. Why are outwardly normal people chasing artifacts of a life that has been off-planet for ten decades? Is there a cure for this sort of thing?
Let us start by saying we don’t regard this as an obsession. (Our girlfriend disagrees, but she’s not here just now.) Our friends who collect Houdini memorabilia and spend serious money for Houdini bobble-heads - yes, they probably should have that looked at. But even they…. True collectors - whether it be art, weapons or Formula One race cars - are motivated by love, not money.
Our passion for Houdini is not about accumulating knick-knacks, nor monetary gain. It’s about what kind of person we can be. It’s about realizing our inner potential, developing all our inner possibilities.
We admire the man. We envy his skills. We find inspiration in his tenacity, courage in his constancy, enlightenment in his one-pointed dedication to his art.
We’re just getting warmed up. More on this to come.
