THERAPEUTIC MAGIC

Many years ago we were lucky enough to spend a day with Walter Gibson, Houdini's friend and associate. He lamented that he could no longer show us any closeup because arthritis had attacked his hands.

"His hands were so beautiful," his wife, Litzka, wailed.

We ourselves, with this in mind, began to incorporate magic into our own fitness and self-healing program. Coin rolls, back palms, the Charlier Pass and other moves became much more than flourishes - they were real "medical insurance," against stiffness in old age. The only difference is that they were practiced like stretches, not like sleights. We've since blended them in to our Therapeutic Tai Chi & Qigong trainings for health professionals, which we're presenting next week at Omega Institute for the tenth successive year.

Richard Turner, the marvelous blind magician in the video, shows us that our handicaps are simply another kind of obstacle on the Way of life. Like other obstacles, they can be overcome.
