HOUDINI AT THE TYPEWRITER

Houdini loved typewriters and so do we. According to the New York Tribune, Harry actually invented the two-color typewriter ribbon. His sketchy handwriting, we conjecture, caused him to type nearly all his correspondence.

Typewriters are to love, and pounding them is a most satisfying pursuit, or it was. We'll never forget the antique British Remington we bought in London back in historical time. We were working on our first book and said so to the junk dealer who sold us the huge black clacker.

"Oh, she'll write a book!" the salesman assured us.

Houdini also loved sound illusions, and we have to credit the man in the video, Michael Winslow, with being a true Houdini of sound effects. We believe Harry himself worked on several of the machines recreated in the first few minutes of the film.
